Jenni Jacobs - Journal #2 Perception in Lighting Part 1

The below images are from the Hub 51 restaurant in Chicago where I recently had brunch.  I think the lighting was well done and enhanced the environment and dining experience.  In terms of the Flynn Attributes, the lighting scheme:
  • Provided a good amount of visual clarity
  • Made the large space feel somewhat cozy/confined (in a good way)
  • Was pleasing / comfortable (preference)
  • Felt lively yet relaxing
  • Not especially private
In terms of the Flynn Modes, I believe the lighting scheme was leveraging:
  • A good level of brightness suitable to dining
  • Non-uniform arrangements to create visual interest and dynamics
  • A balance of central and perimeter lighting
  • Warm, cozy color temperatures
