Perception, Inception, Deception: Layers o' Light
349 Newbury Street: In my old work, we focus on health and wellness (myofascial stretching, infrared saunas, and normatec boots). It was a space for recovery, rejuvenation and clarity and the lighting needed to depict just that. Being in a unique space definitely tested the ability to create enough light to allow the coaches to see their clients and do their job and for the clients to still feel relaxed. Recessed lighting and pendants offset from the tables create a dim but clear work environment for the coaches. Daylight shines in through the storefront onto the reception desk below. Along with task lighting above the reception desk, their is plenty of light for clients to fill out paperwork and for the receptionist to complete her tasks without hesitation, but this does not disrupt the relaxation aspect given off from the studio behind her. In the back of the studio there is a place for clients to self stretch with plenty of task and ambient lighting. Using warm light it keeps the space lit with non-uniform lighting.
