The past week I went to the Restoration Hardware Store (RH) located at Berkeley St, Back Bay. In all its spaces it is possible to see at least 3 layers of lighting which contributes to add flair and personality to them and creates very pleasant and attractive environments.

On photo 1, it is possible to notice 4 different layers
of lighting: daylight, ambient, accent and task lighting. Since this is a space
where clients select upholstery fabrics, the light coming from the desk lamps combined
with one coming from the pendants help to create shadow-free work areas. The
back shelves with the accent lighting do a very successful job on highlighting
all the fabrics available.

On photo 2, there are also 4 layers of lighting present:
daylight, ambient, accent and task lighting. Here, I would say that the ambient
light coming from the chandelier also works as a decorative light as well,
since it also works as a focal point in the space and contributes on the
aesthetic appeal of it, making it more sophisticated.

On photo 3, I identified 3 layers of lighting: daylight,
decorative lighting coming from the floor lamps behind the sofas, and the ambient
lighting coming from the fixtures on the ceiling and the chandeliers. In this
space, I would also say that the chandeliers work as decorative lighting as
well.

In this forth space I photographed, the 4 layers of
lighting can also be seen. Here the all the layers work to create a welcoming
and cozy space, with a lounge feel to it. The use of accent and decorative lighting
stands out more in this space than the others and definitely helps to create this
comfortable and warm feeling it gives. The ambient light that comes from the
chandeliers are also very successful in setting the overall mood of the space.
