Perception in lighting

Spending most of my weekend at the hospital got me to understand the various light layers that are put in the space. The space uses at least 4 layers of light with the most one during the day being sunlight.  The other layer is the ambient light that is in both the patients' rooms and the hallway. However, the one in the patients' rooms is much dimmer than the one n the hallway. The one in the hallway is brighter because it also serves as a task layer of light for all the activities going on in the corridor. The patient rooms also have a task light that is activated when needed in the spaces and when not needed is turned off for the patients to be able to feel relaxed in the space.
