Jenni Jacobs - Journal #3 Perception in Lighting Part II

I was in Trident Booksellers this week and was not particularly pleased with the lighting.  I found the overheard fluorescent lighting to be too glaring and sterile-feeling based on the color temperature.

In terms of the Flynn Attributes:
  • Strong visual clarity
  • Created a somewhat spacious feel even though books and merchandise are crammed everywhere
  • I disliked the lighting arrangement overall as it was too overhead in the main book areas without any dynamic layers of lighting
  • Created a feeling more so of alertness than relaxation
  • Public space
In terms of the Flynn Modes:
  • Too bright in my opinion - in one area track lighting illuminating bookshelves creates glare if you're standing in front of the shelves
  • Pretty uniform arrangement
  • Central and overhead
  • Too cool color temperature - I wish it felt warmer
