Journal Entry #3: Perception & Lighting (Bad) - Ellen Pierce

Image result for room with bad lighting example

Here is an example of bad lighting based on the Flynn Attributes. The lighting in this kitchen is very hazy which is not suitable for cooking. The use of overhead lights as ambient lighting fail in that the area becomes unpleasant and confined. The lighting is central to the space and casts dim light in the room creating a lot of darkness and shadows. If task lighting were to be placed around the perimeter under the cabinets, the lighting quality would increase in that the functionality of the space would be better to prepare meals/cook. The lighting in this space could be considered somewhat warm and relaxing if you were just having dinner, however on the other hand if you were actually trying to cook it would probably, for most, create a strong negative reaction because it would be difficult to see what you are doing!
