Carey Schmidt - Journal #1: Layers of light

Photo #1: Forever 21, Newbury St.
The 3 layers of light used in this clothing store are focal, decorative, and ambient. The focal lights are  highlighting the clothing in the window and along the walls inside, the decorate lights are the chandeliers displayed in the center of the store, and the ambient lights are the lights mounted in the ceiling to make sure the entire store is brightly illuminated for its shoppers.

Photo #2: Starbucks, Newbury St.
The 3 layers of light used in this coffee shop are focal, task, and ambient. The focal lights are highlighting the artwork on the walls, the task lights are illuminating the ordering area and cashiers counter, and the ambient lights are mounted on the ceiling to give the shop its complete warm and soft lighting feel.

Photo #3: My apartment, JP.
The 3 layers of light used in my apartment are focal, task, and decorative. The focal lights are highlighting the art on the wall and the pathway behind the counter, the task lights are the lights mounted underneath the counter in order to see better when cooking, and the decorative (and also task) light is the chandelier hanging above the dining room table.
